ADC alleges plot to arrest Aregbesola, warns FG

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed alarm over reports suggesting security agencies may arrest their National Secretary, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, prior to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. The opposition party warned that such an action could exacerbate political tensions in the region. In a recent statement, ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, highlighted a pattern of intimidation and alleged misuse of state institutions against opposition figures.

Abdullahi urged both the Federal Government and security agencies to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could disrupt the electoral process or erode public confidence. Aregbesola, a former Osun State governor and former Minister of the Interior, is expected to play a significant role in coordinating the party's activities during the election.

The ADC argued that if there were legitimate reasons for questioning Aregbesola, they should be addressed through established legal channels rather than resorting to an arrest that could be perceived as politically motivated. The party cautioned that an arrest on the eve of an election in which Aregbesola's party is participating could be interpreted as an attempt to hinder his ability to lead and coordinate the party's election activities.
