“폭염에 쓰러진 쿠팡 노동자 이달만 6명 ”…택배노조, 쿠팡CLS 노동청 고발

The Korea Federation of Postal Workers has filed a complaint against e-commerce logistics company Coupang's CLS subsidiary, claiming six delivery and shipping workers collapsed due to extreme heat in August alone. The union filed a complaint with the Ministry of Employment and Labor in Seoul the day before the incident occurred.

The workers claim that Coupang's Stylist (CLS) failed to implement cooling measures despite two workers collapsing on a single day. The union demanded an investigation into whether Coupang's Stylist fulfilled its preventive measures as a subcontractor. On August 13, two workers were hospitalized after collapsing at Coupang's Seoul Seochyo and Songpa 1 camps.

In late August, Coupang extended the delivery closing time from 8 PM to midnight to accommodate the delivery of perishable foods. However, the union argues that the limited and partial measures are ineffective, as not all shipping points were notified in time. The union further criticized Coupang for only offering temporary measures instead of implementing long-term safety solutions.

The union also noted that Coupang will not participate in delivery operations on designated "no delivery days" during the August 14-15 heatwave.
