59-year-old vet quits $150K job, earns double

Veterinarian Ron Titterington, 59, has left his $150,000 executive role to pursue a flexible "soft retirement" in 2023. Unlike a traditional retirement plan, Titterington decided to work flexible relief shifts as a veterinarian, allowing him to control his schedule. Three years later, he has seen financial success, earning nearly double his previous salary while enjoying more time with his family.

Titterington's interest in animals began at age 9 when an injured dog outside his home inspired him to become a veterinarian. After completing his degree in 1992, he grew his small clinic into a larger practice, but found the responsibilities overwhelming. Titterington eventually worked as a chief of staff and chief of medicine at a pet care HMO, but his father's cancer diagnosis prompted him to reconsider his career.

He now works as a relief veterinarian through an app, balancing his passion for animal care with more personal time and a significant financial gain.
