National Assembly member 이진숙 is demanding the immediate dismissal of the 국회도서관 (National Assembly Library) director for hosting a forum allegedly dedicated to distorting and downplaying the history of the 5·18 democratic movement. 이진숙's Democratic Party (누른민주당) is protesting the proposed gathering of groups that revere former presidents 김영사·박정희 under the guise of researching the movement's reinterpretation.

Minister 박균석 criticized 이진숙's actions, claiming he has "overstepped" by opening a venue to "mock" and "downplay" the 5·18 democratic movement. The 광산구 (Guam-sang) constituency, which 박 holds, includes 광주 metropolitan area. He urged the relevant agencies to take action against the head of the 국회도서관 for hosting an event that aligns with "extremist views."

In response, the 국회 윤리위원회 (National Assembly Ethics Committee) has been urged to be restructured to better address such misconduct. The committee's chairman also stated that the 국회 must not become a platform for leaders who glorify past leaders like 김영사·박정희, as it risks dividing the nation further.
