Seoul National University of Science and Technology's Anchor Business Unit successfully hosted the '2026 Summer AI Hackathon'. The event brought together university students from Seoul and other regions to collaborate on AI-based solutions for regional and industrial field problems.

The Seoul Institute of Technology (President Kim Dong-hwan, hereafter referred to as Seoul Institute) hosted the "2026 Summer AI Hackathon (ANCHOR) Entrepreneurship Unit" from August 10th to 11th at the Yongin High-Level Talent Training Center in Gyeonggi-do. This event was established as part of the "activation and collaboration enhancement between Seoul and the provinces" unit of Seoul's Anchor Entrepreneurship Unit.

Students from Seoul Institute, the National Mining Engineering University, the National Agricultural University, and Ajou University participated in this joint program, where they identified problems faced by local communities and industries and proposed AI-based solutions. The hackathon focused on designing solutions to address risks and activate large-scale regional development using Seoul's AI technology and infrastructure.

Participants selected areas of interest, such as improving productivity and safety in manufacturing and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as resource sharing between campuses and the local community and matchmaking between young people and entrepreneurs for project collaborations. Seoul Institute's Anchor Entrepreneurship Unit expressed that the hackathon confirmed the potential for a large-scale cooperative model connecting Seoul's educational and technological infrastructure with the demands of local universities and industries.

Furthermore, the unit plans to expand educational cooperation and industrial-linked programs centered around Seoul's strategic industries, such as AI, semiconductors, and ICT, involving more universities in the future. Kim Dong-ho, President of Seoul Institute's Anchor Entrepreneurship Unit, stated, "This hackathon provided a meaningful opportunity for students to identify problems faced by local communities and industries, and to develop feasible solutions using AI.
