168 solar streetlights stolen on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Longbridge

168 solar-powered streetlights along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway's Longbridge section have been stolen by suspected vandals, according to findings by PUNCH Metro. The lights, installed in 2025, were meant to improve safety and provide illumination on the busy stretch. During an inspection, it was found that about 168 solar-powered streetlights had been removed from various points on the bridge, with some poles forcibly taken apart.

Motorists and business owners expressed concern over the gradual disappearance of the lights, which they believe will return the route to darkness and expose road users to greater risks, particularly at night. The authorities have arrested and charged some vandals, and efforts are underway to prevent further thefts of public infrastructure.
