Voters in 6 states are choosing candidates for November

On Tuesday, voters in six U.S. states will decide on candidates for the House, Senate, and gubernatorial races in the upcoming November elections. In Wisconsin, Democratic socialists are challenging the Democratic establishment in the governor's race, while in South Carolina, Darline Graham, sister of late Sen. Lindsey Graham, will contest a special Republican primary to fill her brother's term.

Alabama's primaries have been affected by the Supreme Court's decision to limit portions of the Voting Rights Act, leading to mid-decade redistricting. In Connecticut, Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont, elected in 2018, faces a primary challenge from Josh Elliott, who will face Republican Ryan Fazio in November. Minnesota is holding primaries in both parties to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Tina Smith and Republican Gov. Tim Walz, as well as several House races that could influence the balance of power in Congress.

South Carolina's special Republican primary, triggered by Lindsey Graham's death in July, sees Darline Graham competing against several well-known opponents. Vermont voters will choose a Democratic primary candidate for governor, who will face incumbent Republican Gov. Phil Scott in November. Wisconsin and Minnesota also have primaries for governor positions, with Republican and Democratic candidates competing to replace Democratic Govs. Tony Evers and Phil Scott, respectively.
