Ukrnafta digitizes drilling, production data to boost efficiency

JSC Ukrnafta is continually digitizing geological and production processes to handle large data volumes more efficiently, enhance analysis quality, and enable precise engineering decisions, the company announced on its website Tuesday. Modern oil and gas competitiveness hinges more on data processing speed than equipment or new wells, according to Bohdan Kukura, chairman of the management board of JSC Ukrnafta.

The company's Research and Design Institute implemented two AI-based projects in the first half of 2026 to improve seismic data quality and automate structural map digitization, resulting in faster processing speeds and higher-quality information for drilling planning. Additionally, Ukrnafta is refining earlier digital solutions, such as automated geophysical well survey interpretation and accelerated well-logging material digitization.

The company also automates geological and geophysical data preparation for digital field models, previously requiring two to six weeks but now completed in just one day. Over 600,000 geological and production documents have been digitized and translated into Ukrainian, and the KSPD-Navigation service continues to simplify technical information search and analysis.

Upcoming projects include a 3D seismic survey fault detection system and an intelligent assistant for geological and production data management. JSC Ukrnafta, Ukraine's largest oil producer, operates in exploration, production, oilfield services, and Ukraine's largest filling station network. The company has over 1,106 oil wells and 131 gas wells, with shareholders including Naftogaz Ukrainy and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Since 2022, Ukrnafta has undergone state management and a significant business transformation, currently leading the fuel sales volumes in the country.
