Two new links: How Mumbai’s commute changes from Thursday

Mumbai commuters will soon experience two significant infrastructure upgrades, promising to ease daily journeys. The first addition is the extension of Metro Line 2B to Chembur, while the second is the completion of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), directly connecting the Western Express Highway (WEH) to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). These developments will provide commuters with more options and reduce travel times.

The Metro Line 2B extension brings station Chembur closer than ever. Located around 200 meters from the Chembur railway station and 100 meters from the V N Purav Marg monorail station, the new station offers metro, suburban rail, and monorail connections within a short walking distance. This interchange potential is particularly crucial, as the eastern section of Line 2B is currently limited.

The expansion of Metro 2B from Diamond Garden to Chembur enhances the city's public transport network, offering commuters more travel alternatives.

On the SCLR project side, motorist benefits come directly at the WEH end of the link. The 1.4-kilometer extension will provide an elevated, direct route from WEH at Vakola to Bharat Nagar in BKC. This will replace the congested Vakola junction and Kalanagar detour, saving commuters up to 35 minutes in travel time. The newly built four-lane elevated carriageway and 900 meters of entry and exit ramps will facilitate a smoother flow of traffic into BKC, reducing the need for vehicles to navigate local roads and congested junctions around Vakola, Santacruz, Kalina, and Bandra East.
