Corruption overtakes Russian attacks as Ukrainians’ top threat, polls find

A recent poll finds that corruption has overtaken Russian drone and missile attacks as the greatest threat facing Ukraine, according to political strategist Ihor Hryniv. Hryniv attributes this shift to the aftermath of the Mindichgate scandal, stating that it has now consistently ranked first among the country's greatest threats in surveys.

Hryniv emphasizes that this concern represents a genuine national problem, not merely public perception, as Ukrainians see corruption as a serious issue. However, Hryniv also notes that corruption has become a broad political catchall, with the discussion no longer focusing on specific forms of corruption or accountability. Other factors, such as financial hardship, rising prices, and the constant threat of drone and missile attacks, may contribute to the public's perception of the scale of corruption.

After restrictions were placed on Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies, Hryniv believes that people realized the real extent of corruption and shifted their blame from anti-corruption agencies to the government and president, who now bear unlimited responsibility for corruption in the country. According to a SOCIS Center for Social and Marketing Research survey published on August 6, 49.3% of respondents identified high levels of corruption in government as the factor doing the most harm to the country's overall situation, while another 44.6% cited repeated drone and missile attacks as the primary threat.
