Toyota recalls 655,000 Camrys worldwide

Toyota has announced a global recall of approximately 655,000 Camry vehicles due to a display error that may cause safety indicators such as turn signals and hazard lights to malfunction during startup. The majority of the affected cars are model year 2025-2026 Camry Hybrids sold in the United States, with over 508,000 units impacted.

These vehicles are equipped with a 7-inch display combination meter that can become blank at startup, potentially leading to the failure of other crucial warnings like seat belt reminders and "key left in ignition" buzzers. These display failures can increase crash risks for drivers and other road users, as the NHTSA warns. Toyota Motor North America, a subsidiary of the larger Japanese automaker, will notify all known owners of the affected Camrys to bring their vehicles to a certified dealer for a free software update.

Letters informing owners of the recall will begin mailing on September 21 in the U.S. and are expected to conclude by early October. The recall affects markets in North America, the Middle East, Asia, and some other regions, with the 655,000 vehicles affected produced between December 2023 and July 2026 across three plants in the U.S., Japan, and Thailand.
