The $899 Pixel 11’s Longer 30x Zoom and New Camera Bar Design Are Impressive

The Google Pixel 11, unveiled just prior to the company's Made by Google event, features a range of enhancements including a 30x zoom capability and enhanced wireless charging, all while maintaining a starting price that is $100 lower than the previous year's Pixel 10. The design of the Pixel 11 incorporates a reduced camera bar, which is 40% thinner than its predecessor, and retains the same 6.3-inch screen size.

It also boasts a slightly larger battery capacity of 4,985 mAh, compared to the Pixel 10's 4,970 mAh. The Pixel 11's standout improvement is its software-driven digital zoom enhancement, which now supports up to 30x, up from last year's 20x. While the camera hardware remains unchanged from the Pixel 10, the software upgrades significantly improve the zoom experience.

The phone is powered by Google's new Tensor G6 processor and runs on Android 17, promising seven years of major OS and security updates. Google has also introduced the Pixel Feature drops to bring new functionality and refinements throughout the year. The Pixel 11's more sleek appearance is complemented by a redesigned camera bar and a slightly raised platform, which enhances usability when using a protective case.

However, the starting price of $899 for the 256GB model, as well as the lack of a $799 entry-level option, may present a barrier for some potential buyers. Despite this, Google has introduced a 512GB model for $1,019, which remains competitively priced within this year's market, especially considering the ongoing RAM shortage. Pre-orders for the Pixel 11 are now open in four color options: frost, pistachio, hibiscus, and obsidian, with the phone set to launch on August 20, coinciding with the Pixel 11 Pro and 11 Pro XL, Pixel 11 Pro Fold, and Pixel Watch 5.
