Terrorists Kill 10 Cops, Lose 17 Fighters in Kebbi, IGP Grieves Over Loss of Personnel

In a shocking incident along the Rafin Makuku axis in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, heavily armed terrorists clashed with police forces, resulting in the loss of ten police personnel and the deaths of seventeen terrorists. Two additional police officers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care, while two civilians also perished during the encounter.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, around 0925 hours, when police operatives intercepted and engaged suspected terrorists moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) confirmed the tragic loss of life and the significant damage inflicted upon the terrorist group, with four of their motorcycles destroyed during the confrontation.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, mourning the fallen officers as he paid tribute to their ultimate sacrifice while protecting the populace. He assured the families of the deceased that their memory would never be forgotten and would be honored by the Force. The IGP further assured that their remains had been transported to Birnin Kebbi and that the area had been secured with additional personnel on standby to pursue the fleeing suspects.

The NPF's Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, revealed that the operation took place on the morning of the 10th of August, and that while four terrorists' motorcycles were destroyed, the terrorists were ultimately defeated. The Force remains committed to bringing the remaining suspects to justice and providing support to the families of the fallen officers and the injured personnel.
