Taiwanese YouTuber targeted for foreign cash, 12 nabbed in RM35,000 Cheras robbery

KUALA LUMPUR - Twelve Malaysians, comprising four women, have been apprehended by the police in connection with the alleged assault and robbery of a Taiwanese YouTuber in Cheras, according to The Star's report. The Kuala Lumpur police chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, revealed that the incident was reported by a Japanese man on August 1st, and the Taiwanese victim suffered injuries and incurred losses of approximately RM35,000.

Fadil stated that the suspects targeted the victim upon discovering he was carrying significant foreign currency. Promptly following the report, police initiated a special operation encompassing the Cheras district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division and the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department. The 12 suspects, ranging from ages 26 to 48, were arrested across Selangor, Negri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur in separate operations.

Seven suspects were released on police bail after their statements were recorded on August 7th, while the remaining five have been remanded until August 13th to assist with the investigation. The case is being probed under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 395 for gang robbery. Authorities are also searching for an additional suspect who remains at large and have appealed for any information that could aid the investigation.
