Supreme Court declines to interfere in HC order on TMC bank accounts

The Supreme Court decided on Tuesday not to interfere with the July 20 Calcutta High Court order that denied the Mamata Banerjee faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) permission to operate three frozen bank accounts. A two-judge bench led by Justices M M Sundresh and P B Varale stated that the HC had previously granted partial access to the accounts for day-to-day expenses and expressed satisfaction with the court's "balanced order."

The bench dismissed appeals filed by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and Biswanath Das, a former TMC leader. Justice Sundresh noted that the interim order addressed the immediate issue, and the main question now was whether further action was needed. He emphasized that funds for day-to-day administration were available. The Special Officer appointed by the HC, former Calcutta HC judge Justice Subrata Talukdar, will oversee the accounts until September 30.
