Super Falcons players skipped meals after WAFCON loss – Kanu

Nigeria's Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu revealed that some of her teammates skipped meals after the team's emotional loss in the WAFCON quarter-final against Cameroon. Nigeria's title defense concluded with Cameroon's 1-0 victory in Casablanca, eliminating the Super Falcons from an automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Kanu stated that the disappointment was still evident more than a day after the defeat, with several players struggling to recover emotionally. "People are still in their feelings," Kanu told ESPN on Tuesday. Several players, including Kanu herself, did not have breakfast or lunch on the day following the match. Despite the defeat, Kanu urged her teammates to focus on their next opportunity and learn from the experience.

"We would take it as a lesson learned, and we build with it, and we look forward to putting everything right on Thursday, leaving everything on the field on Thursday against South Africa," she said.
