Speak law, not emotions – Amaliba fires back at Mercer on Sedina Tamakloe’s release

Former NDC Director of Legal Affairs Abraham Amaliba has dismissed claims by NPP member Andrews Agyapa Mercer that the release of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu vindicates the opposition party's concerns over selective justice. Amaliba stated that the former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre CEO's release was the natural outcome of her acquittal and discharge by the Court of Appeal.

He argued that the government had no control over the release, as it was already decided by an independent court. Amaliba stressed the importance of speaking in terms of law, rather than emotions, and emphasized the judiciary's independence. He reiterated that even if the NDC government had wanted to keep Tamakloe-Attionu in custody, it could not have overridden the court's decision.

Mercer, on the other hand, claimed that the release confirmed his suspicions about the selective prosecution of political opponents under the NDC government. He questioned the Attorney-General's decision to drop the stay of execution application after the Court of Appeal's ruling. Amaliba countered that such concerns should be addressed by analyzing the legal basis of the court's decision, not through a political lens.
