Sony announces new Ghost of Yotei expansion and Complete Edition, but the upgrade cost is a slap in the face for day-one buyers

Sony has unveiled an expanded version of Ghost of Yotei, titled the Complete Edition, set to release on October 1, 2026. The Complete Edition will include a new expansion called Echoes of Sekigahara, described as a narrative-focused addition that introduces a new character from the game's protagonist Atsu's past. The expansion adds a new valley to the game, filled with fresh enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, dyes, and more for players to explore.

Alongside the expansion, the edition will also introduce a single-player survival mode called Most Wanted. Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager for developer Sucker Punch Productions, likened the Complete Edition to a roguelike game, where players undertake bounties to progress, earn perks, and unlock new characters. The Complete Edition will be priced at $69.99 / £69.99, a $10 reduction from the digital deluxe edition's original price.

Existing owners of Ghost of Yotei will need to pay an extra $14.99 / £10 for the upgrade. While this may be seen as a "slap in the face" for day-one buyers, Sony has promised a quality-of-life patch on October 1, including new beauty features and a screensaver-like mode. Additionally, the Complete Edition will be available in a physical PlayStation 5 version.
