Single opposition candidate: Galadima, ADC differ, APGA backs Tinubu

Buba Galadima, a prominent opposition figure representing the African Democratic Congress, held differing views compared to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) regarding a recently proposed unity among opposition candidates for the 2027 Nigerian presidential election. The G-100, led by former All Progressives Congress member Salisu Lukman, called for a single candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and their running mates to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

Galadima expressed support for the proposal, provided it was driven by patriotism and not self-interest, citing electability and effectiveness as essential criteria. However, the ADC disagreed with the G-100's assertion that unity alone could unseat Tinubu, emphasizing the need for a broad-based and inclusive government. In contrast, the APC rejected the opposition's call for unity, with the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stating that collaboration with other parties is open but not a prerequisite for dislodging Tinubu.

Meanwhile, the All People's Party (APPA) pledged its support for Tinubu's re-election bid. The G-100 is set to convene a summit on August 18, 2026, in Abuja to further discuss unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
