Sedina Tamakloe’s release was the ‘logical conclusion’ after acquittal — Amaliba

Former Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress, Abraham Amaliba, stated on Joy FM's Top Story that the release of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was the "logical conclusion" following her acquittal and discharge by the Court of Appeal. Amaliba explained that the normal legal process following an acquittal and discharge meant Tamakloe-Attionu could walk free after a seven-day statutory stay of execution.

The Attorney-General's decision to withdraw an application seeking to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal's judgment, which allowed for her release, may have been due to a review of the appellate court's decision, Amaliba suggested. Amaliba defended the government against claims from the opposition New Patriotic Party that the release vindicated their earlier accusations of political interference, arguing that once an independent court had acquitted and discharged Tamakloe-Attionu, the government could not simply prevent her release.
