SBU uncovers Russian spy network targeting ammo depots

Ukraine's Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed a network of Russian spies targeting the country's ammunition depots and air defense positions, according to a press release on August 12. The SBU apprehended four Russian informants across eastern and central Ukraine. These undercover agents, working independently yet reporting to a common handler, focused on high-value targets such as logistics facilities storing weapons and ammo, as well as Ukrainian air defense installations.

Their surveillance also extended to areas densely populated by Ukrainian troops and military gear. One of the spies was a former Kramatorsk machine-building plant employee who provided Russian intelligence with the locations of military airfields and fortifications. Additionally, two other agents supplied the coordinates of Ukrainian military sites in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast – one from a Kamyanske utility company and another from a Pavlohrad military deserter.

In Kirovohrad Oblast, a Znamyanka unemployed man was also apprehended, as he allegedly scouted for FSB orders, mapping out potential Ukrainian Defense Forces locations. During searches, law enforcement seized mobile phones belonging to the suspects, containing incriminating evidence of their collaboration with the FSB. The four men have been charged with treason under martial law and face potential life sentences, including the forfeiture of their property.
