Rivers denies renewed clash between Fubara, lawmakers over 2026 budget

The Rivers State Government has firmly denied allegations of a renewed conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly regarding the 2026 budget appropriation bill. The government clarified that the bill is still undergoing the necessary legislative procedures and is being processed in accordance with established protocols.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the lawmakers for the betterment of the state. The governor had already submitted the budget proposal to the legislature, and it is currently under review. Nzeshi emphasized that the state has endured enough political turmoil and urged those spreading negative narratives to cease their efforts, as peace and unity are crucial for the state's progress.

This statement comes as there has been renewed interest in the dynamics between the executive and legislative branches in Rivers State, following Fubara's return to the political camp of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
