Rainy I-Day weekend as IMD forecasts heavy showers in certain places in ghats, Konkan and Goa

As India marked the beginning of the rainy season on August 15, the Central Maharashtra region faced widespread and widespread rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday. Isolated heavy showers were expected on August 13 and again on August 15 and 16, with the likelihood of reduced rainfall from August 15 to 18. Similar conditions were forecast for Konkan and Goa, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in certain places till August 18.

Mumbai was under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at specific locations on August 13, while Thane was warned for very heavy rainfall for an additional day. The Pune and Satara ghats received an orange and yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall till August 15, respectively. In Kolhapur, a uniform yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places was issued until Saturday.

The 24-hour rainfall recorded at 8:30 am showed that ghat areas, including popular destinations like Lonavala, had received 108 mm of rain, Tamhini had 85 mm, and Bhira 120 mm. Pune and its suburbs remained generally cloudy throughout Wednesday, with light rainfall totaling 2.5 mm to 3.0 mm at various locations. Koregaon Park received 2.0 mm while NDA and Lavale recorded 1.0 mm each.

IMD forecast that Pune and its suburbs would remain generally cloudy with light rainfall till August 18, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius by August 18. Despite the country receiving 95.5 mm of rain, which is 11% below normal, the monsoon trough was found to be south of its usual position on August 12. The weekly rainfall summary indicated that Madhya Maharashtra received 25.9 mm, a 52% deficit compared to normal. In Pune district, 30.8 mm of rain was recorded, which is 57 mm below normal.
