Rahul Chopra shines with bat and ball as UAE beat Canada by 97 runs

Rahul Chopra made an impressive return to the UAE side as the national team overcame a tough performance in the Cricket World Cup League Two match against Canada in Dundee. A determined effort from Chopra saw him hit a scintillating century, scoring 127 not out and guiding his team to a total of 282 for six off their 50 overs. Only two other UAE players, Asif Khan and Khurram Khan, have scored higher individual scores in one-day international history.

Chopra was not just limited to batting as he also showcased his fielding skills, catching a crucial catch at mid-off during a middle-order collapse, effectively ending Canada's chances in the run chase.

In addition to his batting prowess, Chopra surprised everyone by taking the wicket of Aaron Johnson, the Canadian batter who was single-handedly carrying the team. This marked Chopra's first foray into bowling in international cricket. With this performance, he has become the third highest scorer of ODI runs by a UAE batter so far, with a score of 127 not out against Canada in Dundee.

As the UAE's bowlers tightened their grip on the game, Canada's lower-order batsman Zahid Shirzad managed to add a touch of entertainment to the match. He scored 53 runs off 23 balls, including five sixes, but his innings was brought to an end when he was caught by Harpreet Bhatia at extra cover. The talented left-arm spinner, Aayan Khan, had already dismissed Shirzad earlier in the game, taking one wicket for 29 runs.

The match concluded with Aayan Khan taking a notable 1 for 24 from his 7.4 overs of bowling, including three maidens.

Despite this comprehensive victory, the UAE remain at the bottom of the competition standings. However, their journey is far from over, as they still have eight matches left to play. With their current points, they have the potential to secure their position in the top six, thereby retaining their ODI status, or even climb up to the top four. This advancement, though unlikely, could pave the way for them to advance directly to the Global Qualifier in February.
