Property crime pushes Pahang crime index higher in first seven months of 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The crime rate in Pahang rose by 105 cases to 1,262 incidents between January and July, compared to 1,157 cases for the same period in 2025, according to Acting Pahang Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob. The rate of solving crime cases fell to 59.58 percent from 71.74 percent. The surge in crime was primarily due to an increase in property-related offenses, which went up to 1,023 cases from 914 cases during the same period last year, the chief said at a Pahang police contingent headquarters (IPK) monthly assembly.

The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) made 8,277 arrests in the first seven months of 2026, compared to 8,243 arrests in the same period last year. However, the value of drug seizures dropped significantly to RM8.95 million from RM25.8 million during the same period. The Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) opened 1,893 investigation papers between January and July 2026, compared to 1,658 papers in the same period in 2025.

During this time, 1,380 arrests were made, compared to 1,167 arrests in 2025, and the number of charge sheets increased to 769 from 633. Despite the rise in commercial cases, the recorded loss value decreased by 9.8 percent to RM46.3 million, compared to RM51.3 million in 2025. To aid scam victims, the Pahang JSJK through the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) seized RM355,355.15, with RM134,546.70 or 37.9 percent of that amount returned to the victims.

In terms of traffic aspects, the number of road accidents increased to 14,640 cases compared to 14,016 cases in the same period last year, but the number of fatal accidents decreased to 242 cases from 265 cases. The Pahang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) issued a total of 129,451 summonses for various traffic offenses, with a total compound collection of RM4.94 million.
