Pro-Palestinian democratic socialist Francesca Hong loses Wisconsin governor primary race

David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive, is set to secure the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin Governor, outpacing Democratic Socialist state Assembly member Francesca Hong. Hong's primary focus during the campaign has been centered around her stance on Israel and antisemitism. Critics have pointed to her past actions, including a livestream fundraiser with left-wing critic Hasan Piker, and a meeting with Michael Beyer, who has labeled Jewish identity as "a constructed ethnicity, this demonic ethnicity, wholly invented."

During one of these appearances, Hong promoted fundraising for individuals on "the front lines in Gaza." In response to these concerns, Hong issued an apology during her campaign, acknowledging that she had misrepresented anti-Zionism as antisemitism and urging the police investigation into a vandalized Israeli flag in her district. She later clarified that she perceived the image as being cropped and incomplete, leading her to draw a distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism.

Hong's views have extended to calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government "genocidal" and advocating for the overturning of a ban on government contracts with businesses that boycott Israel. Furthermore, she has criticized Wisconsin's moderate Democratic Governor for supporting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's controversial definition of antisemitism.
