Phayao truck crashes into roadside shelter amid heavy rain

Phayao — On the early hours of 12 August, a ten-wheeled truck laden with cement bags collided with a roadside shelter due to slick road conditions in Phayao. At 00:50, deputy investigation officer Pol. Lt. Col. Santi Kabkaew was notified by the Khun Puem rescue team of the accident near Ban San Muen Kaew in Mae Puem subdistrict, Mueang district.

Emergency responders and traffic officers were quickly dispatched to the scene. They discovered a Hino ten-wheeler truck and trailer, registered in Lamphun under license plates 70-2639 and 70-1951, respectively. The truck cab had come to a halt across the road after losing control and crashing into the shelter, which suffered substantial damage.

The trailer tipped over into a roadside ditch, prompting a large amount of cement bags to spill onto the road and block traffic. Rescue workers from Mae Puem Municipality and the Khun Puem rescue team aided in managing traffic flow and removing the cement bags from the road to restore passage for vehicles. The clean-up effort continued as the rain persisted.

The truck driver informed authorities that he was on a delivery route from Lampang to Chiang Rai. Upon reaching the accident site, heavy rain made control of the truck difficult, which subsequently led to the crash. The overturned trailer then sent cement bags scattering across the road.
