Nungua SHS appeals for support to bridge digital infrastructure gap

Nungua Senior High School (SHS) in the Greater Accra Region has reached out to institutions and organizations for assistance in addressing the digital infrastructure gap existing in Ghanaian schools. This appeal was prompted by a donation of 10 modern touchscreen computers, provided by the Africa Green STEM and Innovation Fund Foundation, in collaboration with its donor, to enhance ICT teaching and learning at the school.

The gesture was a result of a visit by the Greater Accra Regional STEM Coordinator, Berthy Buah, who noticed that the lack of computers hindered students' ability to adequately prepare for and excel in ICT examinations. Ms Buah observed that some students resorted to borrowing laptops or sharing the scarce devices, thus curtailing their practical learning experiences.

Upon meeting with the school’s management, Ms Buah recommended that the Headmistress formally request support from the Foundation, leading to the donation of the computers. Headmistress Regina Tetteh graciously accepted the donation from the Foundation and its donor partner, expressing gratitude for their intervention. She emphasized that the new devices would substantially enhance ICT lessons and furnish students with crucial digital skills, especially as Ghana places a growing emphasis on digitalization and artificial intelligence.

Mrs Tetteh pledged that the school would diligently maintain the computers and ensure their usage was strictly for academic purposes.

Seeking to encourage more support, Mrs Tetteh encouraged other institutions and organizations to contribute to similar initiatives aimed at resolving the digital infrastructure challenges faced by schools nationwide. The Africa Green STEM and Innovation Fund Foundation reiterated its dedication to supporting schools across Ghana in advancing digital education.

The Foundation also pledged to monitor the usage of the computers, develop the capacity of teachers and students, conduct annual impact assessments, and provide feedback to the donor partner regarding the effectiveness of their intervention.
