NPFL player Ozor in ICU after reported death

Chinedu Ozor, a player from Katsina United, is currently in the intensive care unit at Katsina General Hospital after being initially declared dead following a collapse during a pre-season match. The incident occurred during Katsina United's game against Niger Tornadoes at the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup in Katsina. Initially, Ozor was pronounced dead by a doctor at the nearby hospital and his body was taken to the morgue there.

However, Katsina United's media officer, Nasir Gide, reported that medical personnel noticed movement in Ozor's body and he was subsequently transferred back to the ICU. Ozor's former clubs, Kano Pillars and Heartland, both expressed condolences on social media, with Heartland stating that Ozor was moved from the mortuary to the hospital after reportedly showing signs of movement.

Ozor's teammate from Niger Tornadoes, who played against him in the match, expressed hope that Ozor would recover, calling it a "heartbreaking" situation. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about medical preparedness at football venues in Nigeria, with one of the participating clubs, Barau FC, withdrawing from the tournament due to the incident.
