New PSL top-flight coaches experience mixed results during opening games

The inaugural two matches of the PSL top-flight season, the Betway Premiership and MTN8, commenced in recent weeks, introducing several new head coaches to their respective teams. These newcomers experienced a variety of outcomes: certain coaches demonstrated immediate dominance, whereas others faltered or commenced their tenure with sluggish progress. Da Cruz commenced his coaching tenure with a decisive 3-1 victory over Kruger United in the Betway Premiership. However, this impressive start did not accurately represent the team's preparedness for competition, as they were eliminated from the MTN8 quarterfinals the following Sunday after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows.

The Chiefs exhibit vulnerabilities in both defense and attacking play. They concede easy goals that goalkeeper Brandon Petersen could have prevented, and lack fluidity and precision in front of the goal. Before co-managing the Chiefs with Khalil Ben Youssef, which resulted in a third-place finish, Kaze arrived at Sekhukhune with high expectations.

He has delivered thus far, securing wins in both his league debut and the MTN8 quarterfinal. Moloto has built upon Mohafe's foundation while fostering a more assertive scoring approach upfront. After the dismissal of Adnan Beganovic last season, Parker assumed interim coaching duties, salvaging the team from relegation, exemplified by a pivotal victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Bafana Bafana international has now assumed his permanent role. He began his official tenure with a draw – a result marred by numerous mistakes, including a player being sent off. He subsequently lost a subsequent match 3-2 to Sundowns on Wednesday. Truter took charge of the Chilli Boys late last season, securing their top-flight status, and was retained for the upcoming season.

Brakkies kicked off their campaign with a draw against Golden Arrows before also sharing the points with Richards Bay on Wednesday. While these results were not ideal, they serve as positive foundations for future improvement. Dladla arrived at Arrows with considerable expectations, having guided Durban City to the Nedbank Cup title and a top-eight finish in his maiden attempt.

He has replicated his success at Arrows, starting the league campaign with a draw against Chippa before leading the team to the MTN8 semifinals with a commanding win over Kaizer Chiefs.
