Mumbai cops bust fake documents racket; four arrested

Mumbai Police have cracked down on a racket involved in producing counterfeit Aadhaar cards, birth certificates, and educational documents, arresting four individuals in two separate operations, according to an official statement on Wednesday.

In the first raid, authorities seized 32 fake birth certificates, documents with forged signatures and seals on school leaving certificates, as well as fake college certificates and other fraudulent papers, from an Aadhaar centre in the Balaji Nagar area of the suburban Dahisar district. The accused in this case, identified as Suresh Kumar Yadav and Umed Dattatray Singh, are alleged to have prepared these fake documents and utilized them for updating Aadhaar cards, based on their interrogation, the official said.

The second operation targeted an Aadhaar Centre in the Poisar area of Kandivali, where police discovered a cache of forged documents and equipment used for Aadhaar updates. This led to the arrest of Satyam Lalan Mishra, 33, and Akash Bhagwan Patwa, 24, in connection with the alleged criminal activities. Police have registered cases under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and are conducting further investigations.

Investigators are working to determine the total number of fake Aadhaar cards and other government-issued documents, and to identify additional individuals linked to this network, the official added. The police continue to monitor the situation and request the public to stay updated through official channels.
