Motorways to Get Modern Weigh Stations

Following two days of negotiations, the government has decided to install modern weigh stations on all motorways. This move was finalized after discussions between the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance and the federal government in Islamabad. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan led the final session, as the convener of the committee established by the prime minister.

Additionally, a joint monitoring committee, including customs authorities and transporters, has been set up to oversee the implementation.

The discussions focused on resolving the challenges faced by transporters when dealing with customs authorities. Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the need to address these issues promptly and directed officials to ensure that transporters' complaints about weigh stations are resolved without delay. He also announced that the modern weigh stations, featuring minimal human intervention, will be set up across all motorways.

Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwaar, who participated in the meeting via video link, pledged the full cooperation of his ministry on maritime-related matters. Senior officials from various relevant departments, such as the Federal Board of Revenue, port authorities, Karachi Port Trust, National Highway Authority, and Motorway Police, briefed the meeting on related issues.

Transporters expressed their support for Abdul Aleem Khan's stance on axle-load regulation. They believe that this issue should be managed through a uniform policy at the source. The news of the installation of modern weigh stations on motorways was first reported by ProPakistani.
