MMORPG Throne and Liberty transitions from Amazon Game Studios to NC (formerly NCSoft)

In a strategic shift, Amazon Game Studios will transition publishing responsibilities for MMORPG Throne and Liberty to NC (formerly NCSoft) by the fourth quarter of 2026. This change marks Amazon's withdrawal from the MMO space, as it fully steps back from the genre. Throne and Liberty, which launched in October 2024 and quickly amassed over three million players, will continue operating under Amazon's platform, with no alterations to account data, character progression, or item status.

Wallet balances will transfer seamlessly across all platforms, including Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and NC's Purple cross-platform gaming service.

FirstSpark Games, an NC subsidiary, will collaborate closely with Amazon to manage the transition, ensuring continuity in technical and operational services while preserving the existing gameplay environment and assets. NCSoft's CEO expressed confidence in the game's future, emphasizing the company's long-standing commitment to the MMORPG it helped create.

NCSoft's decision to take a more direct role in global publishing for Throne and Liberty reflects the publisher's strategic focus on steering the game's trajectory as Amazon's MMO portfolio declines. Recent closures of Amazon's MMO projects, such as New World: Aeternum and King of Meat, underscore the company's pivot away from the genre.
