Märkte Asien: Geopolitische Spannungen treiben Ölpreis – Topix erreicht neuen Rekord

Geopolitical tensions drove oil and gold prices on Wednesday. Despite this, Asian investors turned to stocks, with Japan's Topix index continuing its winning streak, reaching a new record high. The index closed 0.9% higher at 4,139.24 points. The Nikkei remained relatively stable, gaining only 1% to close at 67,630 points. The Shanghai Composite also saw a slight increase of 0.6% to 3,947 points.

In Asian currency markets, the dollar showed modest gains against the yen and yuan. The Swiss franc saw a slight increase as well. However, tensions in Yemen and North Korea kept the markets on edge. Attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi militias in Yemen and a North Korean rocket launch added to the uncertainty. Simultaneously, mutual threats and warnings in the Iran crisis contributed to a spike in oil prices, pushing the Brent crude oil contract for October delivery up by 0.8% to just over $89 per barrel and WTI crude oil for September delivery up by 0.8% to just under $84 per barrel.
