Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences Of 4 Domino's Pizza Outlets Over Food Safety Violations

Mumbai, August 12 - The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of four Domino's Pizza outlets, three in Mumbai and one in Satara district, for alleged food safety and hygiene violations, officials announced on Wednesday. The Maharashtra FDA, led by IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, conducted a special drive against chain restaurants across the state, inspecting 104 establishments, including Domino's Pizza, KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, and Monginis.

In Mumbai, the FDA targeted Domino's Pizza outlets in Vile Parle West, Borivali West, and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar West. At the Vile Parle outlet, deficiencies included improper display of FSSAI licence, lack of potable water, inadequate food storage, pest control, and hygiene facilities. The outlet was directed to ensure proper temperature monitoring of frozen food, segregate food and non-food items, implement rodent and pest prevention, and provide adequate hand-washing and hygiene facilities.

The Borivali outlet was found to have 15 percent non-compliance, with corrective measures covering food storage, temperature monitoring, food testing, cleanliness, pest control, proper segregation of raw and cooked food, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, and regular sanitization of equipment and utensils. The Ghatkopar outlet was deficient in cleanliness, sanitation scheduling, and pest control measures, and failed to follow FIFO and FEFO practices, maintain proper temperature control in food storage, and lacked food-grade certificates and records.
