Lim Tean stayed at rental condo near Mid Valley Southkey popular with S'poreans

Singaporean lawyer and politician Lim Tean sought refuge in the Southkey Mosaic Condominium, a popular rental apartment in Johor Bahru, before his arrest on August 6, 2026, by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). The 61-year-old had previously been deported from Malaysia and was arrested by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on August 11, 2026, for practicing law without a valid practising certificate.

Lim was supposed to start serving a three-month and one-week sentence on August 3, but failed to surrender as required, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. He crossed into Malaysia by land, according to a tip-off to Shin Min Daily News, and hid in the apartment, which had 34 floors with some units serving as guesthouses.

On the day of his arrest, Malaysian police visited the guesthouse where Lim was hiding, but he locked himself inside for two hours, refusing to open the door despite officers calling his name. Eventually, the landlord was contacted through the apartment management, who opened the door and facilitated Lim's arrest. According to sources, the Southkey Mosaic Condominium is frequently used by Singaporeans, many of whom stay there over the weekends or holidays.

The apartment is located approximately 20 minutes away from the checkpoint and is listed on rental platforms like Airbnb, where Singaporean travelers have commended its proximity to popular malls like Mid Valley Southkey.
