Bimoba language set for inclusion in national language programme as NABMAG secures key agreement

The Bimoba language is on the verge of being included in Ghana’s national language development programme, with the National Association of Bimoba, Moba and Gurmas (NABMAG) making significant strides in this pursuit. Amos Konsab, NABMAG's President, confirmed the Bureau of Ghana Languages' commitment to incorporating the Bimoba language.

This development follows a meeting between NABMAG leaders and officials from the Bureau to discuss language recognition, preservation, and promotion. The Bureau has begun work to add Bimoba, Mampruli, and Wala to the programme, highlighting the importance of developing and protecting Ghanaian languages. NABMAG will play a pivotal role in the implementation, requiring active engagement and cooperation throughout the process.

Plans are underway for a formal launch of the programme in November 2026 at the National Theatre in Accra, mirroring the launch format used for other languages already in the programme. Officers from the Bureau of Ghana Languages are expected to conduct field visits to Bimoba-speaking communities to gather linguistic data and other necessary information for the language's documentation and development.

NABMAG views this as a crucial milestone for the Bimoba people, emphasizing its role in safeguarding their language, culture, and identity for generations to come. The Association calls on traditional rulers, scholars, language experts, youth groups, organizations, and all Bimobas to support the initiative, stressing that unity and active participation are vital for its success.

NABMAG will continue to monitor the process and keep the public informed, asserting that including Bimoba in the national programme will create a robust foundation for preserving and advancing the language, thereby strengthening the cultural identity of the Bimoba people.
