Legal action looms for Facebook page attacking Perak state developer

IPOH, August 12 — The Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) has reported the matter to both the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in response to the spread of allegations against the corporation, its management, and certain linked individuals. A Facebook page, which has been publishing serious allegations continuously, has come under scrutiny for the dissemination of serious allegations that lack verifiable facts, potentially damaging PKNPk's reputation and credibility, as well as undermining investor, stakeholder, and public confidence.

The corporation emphasized its respect for the right of individuals to voice opinions, provide views, and make criticisms through appropriate channels, but such freedom should not be abused. PKNPk lodged several reports and complaints with the police and MCMC between July 30 and August 3 over the dissemination of the allegations.

The corporation has also sought legal advice and will take appropriate action to protect its interests, reputation, and integrity against any party publishing or disseminating false or defamatory statements, or statements violating the law. PKNPk remains focused on fulfilling its mandate and responsibilities as the state's development agency, guided by the principles of integrity, accountability, and the interests of Perak.
