Lawyer seeks Fadahunsi’s prosecution, faults release

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has criticized the release of Osun East Senator, Francis Fadahunsi, following his questioning over threatening remarks made in a viral video. Effiong urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to prosecute Fadahunsi, arguing that his comments could exacerbate political tensions ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

Fadahunsi initially claimed his remarks were a metaphor for defeating the Accord Party in the election, but Effiong dismissed this explanation as "pedestrian, childish and feeble." He called the statement "highly unfortunate, condemnable, reckless and irresponsible," given the already tense political climate in Osun. Effiong warned that the senator's comments could negatively impact voter turnout and the integrity of the electoral process.

He also accused the Osun State Police Command of bias by releasing Fadahunsi without further action, suggesting this demonstrates their unwillingness to take further steps against the senator. Effiong called for a court prosecution to demonstrate the police's impartiality in handling political cases and prevent an anarchy endorsement.
