Karpowership Ghana trains fisherfolk on fire safety, hygiene and financial management

Karpowership Ghana recently conducted a training session for fishermen and fishmongers from Sekondi and Essikado, focusing on safety, hygiene, and financial management. The program, held on August 11, involved key organizations such as the Ghana National Fire Service, Fisheries Commission, and Fidelity Bank. The initiative is part of Karpowership's commitment to community development and providing practical knowledge to improve livelihoods.

Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager at Karpowership Ghana, emphasized that the company's support extends beyond electricity provision to empowering people with essential skills for safer and more sustainable livelihoods. The training encompassed fire safety, hygienic fish handling, and financial management.

The Ghana National Fire Service conducted a fire safety training, highlighting fire prevention, emergency response, and handling fire incidents. This was particularly relevant after recent fire incidents at the fishing harbor in Sekondi. Practical demonstrations and simulations were conducted to help participants respond effectively in case of an emergency.

Nana Appiah Mensah, a participant, expressed his gratitude for the fire safety training, stating that it was crucial given the recent fire incident. He highlighted the importance of understanding fire prevention measures and emergency response steps.

The Fisheries Commission educated the participants on maintaining proper hygiene during fish handling, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness from catching to selling. Justina Annan Obeng, a Fisheries Commission representative, stressed the significance of proper hygiene for public health, fish quality, and maximizing the value of catches.

Fidelity Bank provided financial literacy training, guiding participants on saving, budgeting, and making informed financial decisions. This session aimed to help fishermen and fishmongers manage their income effectively, plan for the future, and build financial resilience for themselves and their families.
