Iran denies talks with US on extending ceasefire

Senior Iranian official asserts that Iran and the United States never discussed extending their ceasefire, as the deal had no beginning date for Tehran to extend. Turkey’s Anadolu agency reported, based on Pakistani sources, that Iran and Washington had agreed to prolong the 60-day ceasefire outlined in their interim deal signed in June.

However, the source emphasized that Iran viewed the agreement as having no start date, thus lacking any extension. The US had declared the deal "over" on July 7, while Iran's foreign ministry labeled it "suspended" a week later. The official explained that the 60-day period referred to an extendable timeframe for negotiating a final deal on Iran's nuclear program and lifting US sanctions.

Essential requirements, including a ceasefire in Lebanon, free navigation in the Gulf, and waivers for Iran to sell oil, were seen as prerequisites for the next negotiation stage. Mediators are reportedly discussing the US returning to the interim agreement and setting a timeline for fulfilling its commitments, but no progress has been made.
