Iran denies extending ceasefire with US, says agreement never entered implementation phase

Iran has firmly rejected reports that it has engaged in any discussions with the United States regarding the extension of their ceasefire agreement, stating that from Tehran's standpoint, the accord never entered the implementation phase. This denial comes in response to claims made by Turkey's Anadolu news agency, which, according to Pakistani government sources, revealed that Iran and the United States had agreed to prolong a 60-day ceasefire under an interim agreement signed in June.

An Iranian insider, speaking to Reuters, denied that any such talks had taken place, emphasizing that Iran sees no commencement of the agreement and thus, no room for extension. They pointed out that the United States violated the interim accord merely 48 hours after its signing and subsequently withdrew from it shortly thereafter.

The June accord aimed for an "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts," yet it quickly disintegrated. Initially, the U.S. President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire "over" on July 7, whereas Iran's Foreign Ministry later described it as "suspended" a week later. The 60-day period outlined in the agreement wasn't a strict ceasefire timeline, but rather a provisional timeframe during which Iran and the United States were to negotiate a comprehensive deal aiming to curb Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

This deal hinged on several conditions, including a ceasefire in Lebanon, freedom of navigation in the Gulf, and waivers permitting Iran to sell oil. Presently, mediators are reportedly discussing the potential for the U.S. to revert to the interim agreement and establish a timeline for fulfilling its commitments, but according to the Iranian source, there has been no significant progress on this front.
