Insta360 X6 Officially Launches; Bigger Sensors, 8K50 Recording, And AI Editing

Insta360 has launched its latest flagship 360 camera, the X6, which succeeds the X5 from last year. The new model boasts larger sensors, faster processing, and several new shooting modes, while still maintaining the core capability of 8K 360-degree recording. One of the most significant upgrades is the transition to dual 1/1.1-inch Sony square sensors, an improvement from the 1/1.28-inch sensors utilized in the X5.

Insta360 claims these new sensors offer 33% more sensor area and around four times the light intake per frame. Additionally, the company has introduced a new low-light mode and AdaptiveTone 2.0 for enhanced exposure and dynamic range.

The X6 can record 8K 360-degree video at a maximum of 50 frames per second, and its single-lens mode can capture 5K at 60 frames per second or 4K at 120 frames per second for slow-motion footage. It also supports 10-bit video, Dolby Vision, and I-Log, providing users with more flexibility for colour grading. The camera positions itself as a three-in-one device.

Its InstaFrame 2.0 mode can track people, pets, and other subjects to produce conventional flat 4K footage. The camera can also function as a traditional single-lens action camera, and for 360-degree recording, users can capture the entire scene initially and reframe it later. The X6 offers FlowState stabilization and 360 Horizon Lock to ensure smooth and level footage.

It can also be paired with accessories like the optional Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, which provides joystick controls for gimbal-style shooting without the need for a separate gimbal. Insta360 also offers a POV Head Tracker that adapts the camera's framing to follow the user's eyeline.

Another addition is Insta360 PanoMind, an AI system designed specifically to understand 360-degree footage. Trained on over 10,000 hours of footage covering various scenarios like travel, cycling, motorcycling, and diving, PanoMind's AI Director feature can analyze footage stored on the camera and automatically generate a highlight video while the X6 is charging.

This processing occurs on the camera itself rather than in the cloud, and users can disable this feature if they prefer to handle editing themselves. For those who want more control, Auto Edit 2.0 can automatically manage framing, camera movements, cuts, music, and transitions. The X6 also offers Moments Pro through its cloud service, enabling users to generate videos based on descriptions of the desired subject, mood, style, and timeframe.
