Hull sign defender Mendy for club record fee

Hull City has announced the signing of Senegal defender Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano for a club record fee, making it the highest transfer fee paid by the club. Mendy, who is 21 years old, has signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. The club has not disclosed the exact amount of the fee, but they claim it is higher than the £20m plus add-ons paid for Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis earlier this month. The previous transfer record for Hull, set in 2016, was £13m for Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason.

Mendy expressed his excitement about joining Hull, stating that it is a great challenge to face playing in the Premier League. He has been a defender since he was a young boy and is eager to prove himself in the top division. Mendy, who began his career at Paris FC, scored twice in 28 games during his single season in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano.

His last appearance for the Spanish club was in the Conference League final, which they lost to Crystal Palace. Mendy also earned one cap for Senegal in a match against The Gambia.

In addition to Mendy, Hull has signed 18-year-old Australia international center-back Lucas Herrington from Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids. Herrington has made two appearances for his country during the World Cup and missed a penalty when they were defeated by Egypt on penalties in the last 32. He expressed his joy about playing in the Premier League and his desire to contribute to the team on a five-year deal.
