Government targets local production of Zonda vehicle components under 24-hour economy

The government of Ghana is actively promoting the local production of specific vehicle components used in Zonda vehicles as part of its commitment to deepen the country's manufacturing base and boost job creation within the 24-hour economy framework. Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang revealed that pinpointing vehicle parts that can be produced domestically would generate opportunities for Ghanaian enterprises and expand employment throughout the manufacturing value chain.

She expressed optimism about identifying one or two components that could be locally manufactured. The Vice President observed the Zonda vehicle assembly plant, where workers operate in continuous shifts around the clock, underscoring the potential of the government's 24-hour economy to enhance production levels and generate additional employment opportunities.

She emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between the government and local manufacturers to identify areas where Ghanaian companies can engage in the vehicle assembly value chain. By locally producing selected components, Ghanaian businesses could enhance their technical skills, bolster domestic industries, and create prospects for companies that supply parts and services to the automotive sector.

The government aims to work with manufacturers and stakeholders to gradually increase Ghanaian participation in vehicle production, contributing to broader efforts to fortify local industry, diminish reliance on imported parts, and retain more value within the Ghanaian economy. Expanding local content in vehicle assembly could also bolster the broader objectives of the 24-hour economy, including heightened production, industrialization, and job creation.
