Google Pixel 11 vs. Pixel 9: Why the Pixel 11 is actually worth upgrading

The latest Google Pixel, the Pixel 11, isn't a massive leap forward from its predecessor, the Pixel 9 or even the Pixel 10. The design, 6.3-inch display, and build quality remain identical. However, the Pixel 11 does offer two key upgrades over its older sibling. Firstly, it comes with double the base storage at 256GB compared to the Pixel 9's 128GB.

Secondly, it boasts two generations of processor advancements, specifically the Google Tensor G6. This upgraded processor promises to deliver better performance while keeping the phone cool and potentially extending its lifespan.

In terms of photography, the Pixel 11 introduces a significant change over the Pixel 9. While the wide and ultrawide cameras maintain the same resolution of 50MP and 13MP respectively, they have been downsized to accommodate a new telephoto lens. This means the Pixel 11 now features a triple-camera setup, adding a dedicated zoom lens for capturing clearer images of distant subjects.

The camera improvements, however, come at the cost of a slightly reduced resolution for the wide and ultrawide lenses, transitioning from 48MP to 48MP. This change may not visibly impact image quality, particularly when considering the importance of aperture, pixel size, and image processing over a minor difference in megapixels.

Despite these technical upgrades, the Pixel 11 maintains a similar design to the Pixel 9. The price has also increased, with the base model now starting at $899, up from the Pixel 9's $799. Despite the price hike, the Pixel 11 offers twice the base storage and improved performance, making it an attractive option for those looking to upgrade from their Pixel 9.
