Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy optimistic Stephen Curry will finish career with Warriors

The Golden State Warriors maintain optimism that two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry will conclude his illustrious career with the team, according to general manager Mike Dunleavy. The 38-year-old guard has expressed his desire to stay with the Warriors for the remainder of his career, and the club is determined to make that happen. Curry recently inked a $62.6 million extension, set to commence in August 2024.

A new contract extension is anticipated but has not been finalized yet. Curry becomes eligible for a two-year extension on August 29, and Dunleavy stated, “I’m pretty confident Steph will finish his career here.” Ultimately, the decision rests with Curry; he may decide to extend his contract or move to another team. If Curry expresses interest in a move, the team’s owner, Joe Lacob, and Dunleavy would be open to discussing the situation.

However, they are not anticipating Curry leaving the Warriors. The team will closely monitor Curry’s playing time, with coach Steve Kerr set to return for two more seasons after securing a new contract in May. Curry had a disappointing 2023-24 season, missing over two months due to a nagging right knee injury, but made a triumphant return in early April, hoping to play through the All-Star break.
