Gachagua questions Amboseli National Park handover, says Ruto misled Kajiado residents

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed doubts over the government's handling of the management plans for Amboseli National Park, alleging that leaders misled Kajiado residents. During his recent political engagements in Kajiado County, Gachagua criticized reports that leaders had celebrated the transfer of the park to the Kajiado County government.

He recalled a conversation with Senator Seki, who attended the event, questioning the validity of promises made. Gachagua pointed out that Kajiado was not expected to gain control over Amboseli from July 1, despite assurances to the contrary. He accused the government of using the celebration as a means to give the impression that Kajiado had secured the park, while in reality, the county had not received the park.

Gachagua argued that the person who could deliver on the promise to give Amboseli to Kajiado residents is himself. The issue of who should manage and benefit from Amboseli has been a sensitive political matter, with local leaders advocating for greater revenue sharing and a stronger role in conservation decisions for Kajiado communities.
