FIFA needs an overhaul not a leadership debate, FIFPRO Europe chief says

Paris, Aug 12 - FIFA is grappling with a confidence crisis and requires comprehensive governance reforms, according to David Terrier, the head of the players union FIFPRO Europe. Terrier expressed concerns over the concentration of power within soccer's governing body, stating that FIFA is "trapped in a real war" due to a breakdown of trust among federations and confederations following the controversial proposal to sell commercial rights for the World Cup.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is seeking re-election in March, has faced open rebellion from UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF after they criticized his conduct and demanded his resignation. Terrier emphasized that the issue is not about Infantino's resignation, but the urgent need for reforms. He urged FIFA to share powers and implement mechanisms to safeguard football, warning that the current system is no longer viable.
