FG begins distribution of starter packs to 18,510 trained artisans

The Federal Government has begun distributing starter packs to 18,510 individuals who completed the first batch of the Renewed Hope Vocational and Skills Training Programme. This initiative, part of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, aims to equip beneficiaries with tools to start businesses and become self-reliant. The recipients, hailing from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, underwent intensive training at over 230 accredited centers.

National Programme Manager for N-POWER, Dr Nsikak Okon, announced the use of GPS technology and a monitoring system to track beneficiaries and ensure the effective use of starter packs. A dedicated call center has been established to assist participants with any issues they may encounter. The monitoring system aims to promote transparency, allowing beneficiaries to access details of their starter packs through an online portal.

The beneficiaries, trained in various trades such as automobile technology, baking, carpentry, cooking, electrical installation, and more, received N60,000 as transport allowance for the two-week training period. Badamasi Lawal, CEO of NSIPA, emphasized that much of the equipment had been idle for over five years before the government decided to refurbish and redistribute it.

The training included not only technical skills but also entrepreneurship development, financial literacy, and business management. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, highlighted the program's role in transitioning beneficiaries from temporary relief to sustainable livelihoods, marking a shift from relief to productive capacity.
